The stage is set, video games have been made, songs have
been written, rumors and buzz from the media is all around as the World prepares
for the biggest football tournament: Brazil 2014
On 7 March 2003, FIFA announced that the tournament would be held in South America for the first
time since 1978, in line with its then-active policy of
rotating the right to host the World Cup among different confederations. The decision meant that it would be the first
time that two consecutive World Cups will be staged outside Europe. Our very
own Nigeria won 4–1 on aggregate against Ethiopia and booked a place in the
World cup in Brazil, but we all know that Qualification is just a small peek
in a bigger picture, a very massive picture.
The final draw for the 2014 World Cup was
held at the Costa do Sauípe Resort, Mata de São João in Bahia on 6 December
2013, which saw Nigeria grouped with Argentina (who have won the World cup
twice in the past and also have the likes of Messi, Aguero and Di Maria), Iran
and Bosnia and Herzegovina are the other teams in our Group F. Tough group?
Well we will just have to wait and see.
Money maker? Well yes this World cup will
bring a lot of revenue to Brazil: hotel bills, bus and train tickets, jerseys,
tourist attractions, restaurants and not to forget Prostitution (just to speak
the truth). But forget about Brazil all the countries have a chance of making
some cool cash too: each team eliminated in the group stage gets a whopping 8
million US dollars each and the winner of the tournament bags 35 million US
dollars (so money dey involved.)
Well less talk and more action will be the
saying come the 12th of June as Brazil take on Croatia in the
beautiful “Arena de São Paulo” in São Paulo. Who will win it? Who will master
the “Brazuca” ball? Who will win the golden boot, golden glove and the MVP? Who
will play that Final Match on the 13th of July in the amazing “Estádio
do Maracanã” at Rio de Janeiro and finally after all the wait, sweat and fight,
who will lift the beautiful World cup as the voices of Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez
and Claudia Leitte sing the “Ole Ola” theme song and as the Stadium erupts,
maybe just maybe it might be our own Vincent Enyeama lifting that trophy.
For now we wait but when the time comes
